Musick for the Chapel Royal
Tallis, Taverner and Sheppard
The Choir of St. Luke in the Fields
The English Chapel Royal, founded in the 14th century, was a traveling group of elite singers and priests who followed the Tudor monarchs between royal residences. The soaring polyphony of the Chapel Royal represents a golden age of English choral music. Composers crafted intricate harmonies using multiple independent singing lines woven together to echo off cathedral ceilings. The concert will present an array of music by Thomas Tallis, John Taverner and John Sheppard composed for the magnificent services for the royal household.
