Music of Pierre de Manchicourt
The Choir of St. Luke in the Fields
Largely unknown until recently, the music of Pierre de Manchicourt is at last finding its way onto the early music concert stage. Manchicourt, the first director of Philip II’s chapel of Flemish singers, was the last great composer writing in the older style of Franco-Flemish polyphony, standing between Josquin and Lassus. Manchicourt employs full, rich textures to produce music that is sonorous and uniquely radiant and transcendent. The concert will feature the six-voice Missa Reges Terrae and the Easter motet Regina caeli, along with other motets composed for King Phillip’s chapel.
