The Golden Age of Portuguese Music
Choir of St. Luke in the Fields

By the 17th century, the transition to the Baroque style was well underway. Portuguese Renaissance composers, however, were not quick to change with the times. Rather than adopting Baroque writing techniques, they incorporated new harmonic flavors from the emerging Baroque movement into the Renaissance style, yielding some of the most exotic sounding music of the era. The concert will feature Manuel Cardoso’s sublime Requiem along with motets by Cardoso, Duarte Lobo,  Filipe de Magalhães, and Vicente Lusitano, the first published Black composer.

After you complete the purchase, you will receive 2 emails.  The first is a confirmation, and the second will include a PDF download with a link to the program and concert.
